In the process, we decided to make use of the remaining ingredients from previous meals and had oatmeal and a ham, cheese, and mushroom omelette for dinner. Or rather, SPAM, cheese, and mushroom omelettes. The huge omelette consisted of 11 eggs, a full can of spam, and more than a quarter pound of cheese. This was split between just three people. After two small bowls of the oatmeal, I started on the omelette. It was a delicious, greasy, cholesterol and protein-filled monster of a dish.

Banana and Raisin Oatmeal

Ingredients:
1.75 cups soy milk
1 cup oatmeal
1 tbps honey
1/2 – 1 banana, sliced
1 or more tbsp raisins
cinnamon as desired

Heat the soy milk in a small pot until it starts simmering. Add the oatmeal and banana slices. Simmer on medium heat for 3 minutes, stir in the honey and add the raisins, and simmer for another 2 minutes. If the oatmeal starts to foam up, take the pot off the heat and turn it off, it’s done! Add cinnamon as desired and enjoy!

Makes two servings.

So today I am back at work. I went for a long run (about 9 miles), had oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, and then came into work. I promptly brewed a pot of coffee. After a long run it’s all I can do to stay awake.

Then for lunch, I took a break and went to Jamba Juice for a blueberry yogurt smoothie. I asked for a Soy Protein Boost, so it tasted a bit grainy.

In any case, back to work!

Two products that I have used recently are Old Spice High Endurance Body Wash and the Neutrogena Men Face Wash.

The key characteristic I have noticed of these products is that they have a strong scent that seems distinctly “for men.” This scent must have been designed by a master marketeer, as all of the “for men” products smell the same to me, no matter what the brand. I don’t know who decided on this scent, but the proliferation of products with this scent is astounding. I was surprised that even Neutrogena has this scent. This is in sharp contrast to Japan, where the “for men” products in Japan have much milder scents.

Shampoo, body wash, face wash, shaving cream, after-shave, and more.

It’s nauseating.

However a simple solution for the “for men” products is available: just use an unscented bar of soap instead.

前の日にハイキングしたから、足も体もまだくたくたに疲れていた。
道を歩いた後、ピザハットで韓国のピザを注文した。
韓国人の友達Aとアメリカ人の友達Bと話した。
今度は韓国人の友達が注文を僕にさせた。俺たち全員をそれぞれ外人として考えさせるようにした。僕に韓国語のテストをしたのだろう。で、僕は注文したあと、こういう話をした。

友達A: ね、韓国語でナンパしてみようか。ウエイトレスの電話番号を聞いてみよう。彼女の返事を見てみたい。
友達B: うん、じゃ、やってみる。どう聞けばいい？
友達A: 「シガンイッソヨ？ノ　イェッポヨ」と聞いてみよう。
「時間ありますか？きみは美しいです」という意味だ。

友達Bは笑いながら練習してみた。ウエイトレスを見かけたか聞こえたかなと僕が思った。

そして、やっとピザが出来た。けど、ピザを出してくれたウエイトレスは別の人だった。

ピザは結構美味しかった。

友達A: 元のウエイトレスはあやしく見えて逃げたかな。
友達B: そうだろう。
友達A: じゃ、次、元のウエイトレスがここを通ったら、ナプキンを頼んでみて。そして、だしてくれたら、その教えた言葉を言ってみ。
友達B: うん、やってみる。

そして、ウエイトレスがナプキンを出した時、

達A: 「シガンイッソヨ？ノ　イェッポヨ」

ウエイトレスはびっくりしたか、友達Bの発音がわからなかったかの顔をした。

ウエイトレスは手を顔の前にちょっと振って断った。

「残念だな」と友達Aがあやしてあげた。

店を出かけた時にウエイトレス達の笑っているすがたが見えた。面白かったかな。

知らない人にも「君は美しい」とほめられたら、気持ちいいだろう。

出来事二
夜にアプジャン駅へ向かった。電車を乗っている間、ハンガンというソウルの川の橋が窓の外に見えた。私は窓に近づいてみた。みると、後ろに立っていた女性達が見えた。

その子達は中国人で、数秒ぐらいだけ顔をじっと見ていた。その瞬間に彼女が気付いて彼女と窓越しに目が合った。「しまった」と考えつつ、目線にあたらないように橋の横を見た。

もう視ていないと思った途端、彼女は中国語で友達と喋った。中国語で「その男の子は窓を鏡として女性の目を見ている」と言った。

僕は中国語がわかるから、びっくりした。僕のアメリカ人の友達の方に向かって英語で説明して笑いかけた。後ろの中国人達は見えなかったけど、僕が彼女達の言っていた言葉がわかったことに気付いていたかな。

「Mezza」はレベノン料理の店で、３〜４人で単品の料理を八つ注文して食べた。全員で八人になったから、店の人が前菜の取り分け皿を沢山出してくれた。料理は美味しかったけど、量はちょっと少なかったと思った。

今回は僕のおごりだったから、友達は文句を言わなかった。しかし、パーティーなら違うところに行けばよかったかも。

メッザの料理が美味しかったから、デートの時には行けばいいでしょう。値段が普通よりちょっと高いけど、雰囲気が良かった。

Last week was the so-called “dead week” here at Georgia Tech, where the students study and finish their projects all week, get very little sleep, and act like zombies the whole week. I stressed over my research project, studied very little for my final exam in Korean, and somehow survived the week but ended up working on Saturday even though I tried not to.

Fortunately I was able to finish most of my work over the weekend and can enjoy perhaps my first Final’s Week already done with final exams! So I am watching as my classmates study and stress over their projects and exams.

And I am watching myself, how I handle the stress that comes from a two-semester-long computer engineering research project in that I am trying to wrap up in time to start my winter break this coming Friday as planned.

I am becoming aware that my environment affects how much stress I feel. When I spend more time in the lab or around other people who are worrying about their exams and projects I feel more stress myself. These are the simple and obvious realizations that I always look forward to in life.

Final’s week, I will survive you once more! And perhaps I will remember you once you are passed.

また知り合って数ヶ月、数年間来の付き合いになる友人との別れの季節がやって来た。

パーティが必ずある。
